We constantly strive to find opportunities to celebrate our pupils’ successes and share them publicly through our newsletters, social media, SharePoint, and assemblies. Pupils are awarded for making positive choices, producing outstanding work and contributions to Academy life, exemplary attendance, participating in extracurricular activities and meeting key criteria from our six Key Character Virtues:
- Ambition
- Compassion
- Courage
- Open-mindedness
- Resilience
- Duty
What do we do to recognise pupils?
Throughout the year pupils are awarded for their attendance, behaviour and effort with events and trips including cinema experiences, street food vans and an end of year visit to a theme park. We also positively target individual and group attendance through our Attendance Champions League. This is a series of contests between different tutor/year groups where points are awarded for attendance and making noticeable improvements.
Additional incentives for going ‘above and beyond’ include queue jump passes and attending celebratory breakfasts and afternoon teas during the school day. We understand that there are several variables when selecting pupils for positive recognition events and ‘mitigating circumstances’ are considered.
Why do we do it?
We firmly believe that we should celebrate successes and encourage positive attitudes and behaviours in school. Praise and recognition will positively influence an individual’s behaviour, creativity, attendance, and punctuality record. We want to champion and inspire pupils to meet the criteria and hope that all pupils aspire to meet targets set. Details of how to earn a place at our positive recognition events are shared with pupils each term and promoted through assemblies and form time learning.
